Recharge at Rancho 2012

Get ready for another fantastic opportunity to get inspired, create breath taking images and recharge your business at one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Southern California!

Read about the optional “Day After Workshop” AND the 50% off Camera gear rentals from Samy’s Orange County! below…

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION EXTENDED UNTIL APRIL 30th!!!

This year, for the three hour portfolio building section of our workshop, we’ll have two couples in beautiful wedding gowns and designer tuxedos AND a third couple in casual attire for engagement session images.  There will be a group of about seven photographers with each couple as well as Mirta, Joe or Michael, one of our colleges, who will help us instruct and pose the models.  Workshop attendees will move from couple to couple in different parts of the property with plenty of time to work with each couple.  Rancho Las Lomas is a very large and beautiful property with endless possibilities and more than enough areas to create incredible images. We’ve been photographing weddings there for ten years and are still discovering new locations.  In addition to our models, we’ll have a reception table created by one of the fine florists who advertise in Ceremony magazine, complete with designer linens, flowers, plates, stemware, etc.  Great for reception detail images, macro work etc.

50% off Camera gear rentals from Samy’s Orange County!  If you want to bring that special lens you haven’t bought yet to the Workshop, like a 70-200 f2.8 (my personal favorite), you can rent it at Samy’s for 1/2 price and you get to play with it before the workshop.  Samy’s rental department’s manager Ray has extended a 50% discount on all camera gear rentals to Recharge at Rancho attendees. You can pick up Saturday afternoon, get used to the gear Sunday, bring it to the workshop Monday, return it on Tuesday morning, and only pay 1/2 of one day’s rental fee.  What a deal!  You still have to bring a credit card, and show that you’re enrolled in the workshop (just print the on-line receipt).  If this is something you want to do, better reserve your gear early, that way you won’t be disappointed.

In the morning, before the “shooting section” we’ll go over marketing, pricing, contracts, second shooter agreements, sales and photo gear in Rancho’s ballroom with the aid of a projection system.  This is a classroom environment and with our small group we’ll be able to answer everyone’s questions. During this time our models will be in make up and wardrobe.  After the shoot we’ll come back in for the third section of the workshop with Mirta, our resident Lightroom and Photoshop Queen!  She’ll go into workflow, on-line proofing, image retouching and album design.  We’ll also touch on album upsales.

Of course, you don’t have to bring food or leave for lunch.  We’ll have breakfast goodies, juice water and coffee.  Lunch will be provided also.  We always have a few vegetarian meals, but if you want one of those, it would be a good idea to let us know ahead of time so we can take care of you.

This will be a very busy, fun day that we hope will transform and improve your art and your business.  There will be a lot to do, but if you want to take a break (I don’t see how you could tear yourself away), you can always stroll around the grounds and visit the local residents, like the four tigers (two siberian and two bengal), the zebras, the alpacas, the other cats and the exotic birds that make beautiful Rancho Las Lomas their home. We can’t wait to spend a very special day with you at one of our favorite places!

All attendees will receive an email a few days before the workshop with detailed directions including a map and suggestions on what to bring.

“The Day After Workshop”  Every year we have several out-of-towners attend our Recharge at Rancho Workshop, and they often say that they would have liked a two day program to best take advantage of their trip out here… Well, we listened, and this year, for the first time, we’re going to offer a 5 hour business and workflow “Day After” workshop at our home studio in Costa Mesa, the day after Rancho, Tuesday, May 29th.  Lunch will be included, of course.
This will be for up to 6 photographers, out-of-towners or local, that would like to go over some of the areas we covered at Rancho in more depth, website critique, shooting techniques, contracts, pricing, Lightroom, album design, or anything else they like.  This opportunity will be available for 4 to 6 photographers only so we can keep the group small.  So if this appeals to you, let us know early so we can plan on it.  The extra cost will be $225 per photographer.

If you’re winging it… John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA) is your best choice.  It’s less than 30 minutes from Rancho Las Lomas by car.  Long Beach Airport (LGB) would be the 2nd choice and Los Angeles Airport (LAX) the 3rd.  LAX is about 2 hours away.  You might find a more affordable flight there, but don’t forget the cost of the airport shuttle.

Foothill Ranch Courtyard Marriott    949.951.5700    www.mariott.com/snafr

Or, if you’re coming into John Wayne Airport, there are many more choices near the Airport.

If you plan to add a mini vacation to the Workshop, the local attractions include Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Laguna Beach with it’s great art galleries and much more. For a great shopping experience, Fashion Island in Newport Beach and South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa offer a wide variety of stores, from the very chic to unique boutiques.
