As always, we had a great time at our last Samy’s workshop Saturday, October 16. Great group of eager photographers! Meghan Lubeck of Meghan Christine Photography drove a long way to be our model. A big thanks to Meghan! We all appreciated your help very much!
Here is a slide show with some of the images we made. Unfortunately, we had a nice, overcast day. Of course, that’s pretty good for outdoor portraits, especially if you don’t have shade anywhere. Our goal is to be able to make great images in the worst conditions possible so we can demonstrate shortcuts and techniques we often use when working with our clients in less than ideal conditions and light. In the slide show you’ll see a few “before and afters” Each first image has been corrected in Lightroom with our usual presets, so it already looks much better than the RAW file. The subsequent like images were tweaked in different ways using Photoshop. Mirta worked some of these at the workshop, and the rest later. As you all know, the group photo is a combination of two images, one of the group with Mirta in it that I took, and then I was added from a group photo Mirta took with me in it. All images were made with a Nikon D3, mostly on aperture preferred. The ISO varied, we were mostly around 320 so we could use a nice fast shutter speed. I always use exposure compensation when shooting in the auto exposure modes. I like the combination of the camera helping me determine the right exposure, with my own bias according to what I want to achieve, the lighting, reflectance of the subject, etc. I used a 70-200 2.8 VR lens for most of the images. The group was shot with the 24-70 2.8. I hope everyone enjoyed this workshop as much as we did. As always, if you have any questions or would like a file of the group shot, drop us a line and we’ll take care of you. If you modeled for us, we’ll be happy to send you the retouched file also. They make great Facebook profile photos 🙂 Don’t forget, if you’re part of this group and you sign up for one of our full or multiple days workshops, one-on-one sessions at our studio or our portfolio building workshops (not affiliated with Samy’s) you’ll get a nice discount. If you’re interested in our WPPI Master Class be sure to sign up early, registration opens the first of November. We hope to see you again soon. Keep in touch!
