We had the opportunity to participate in the last SoCal PhotogShootout at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, a beautiful location. Mirta and I were asked to lead the “Weddings” segment. This was our first time at this kind of event. It was great! I think all the photographers who participated had a great time! It works like this: Photographers who want to learn more about different segments of our industry sign up and spend the day with different “leaders”, one for each of the areas covered that day. Groups of about 12 photographers rotate among the leaders, and models, every hour or so. That way, everyone spends time learning about different disciplines and working on a more rounded portfolio. The other leaders were Amber Fox on High School Senior Portraits, Bobby Brown showed everyone how he photographs Family Portraits, Jen Disney worked her magic with Babies and Commercial / Fashion was very ably handled by John Mireles. Hanssie Trainor and Matt Saville, our hosts and organizers, did an incredible job taking care of every little detail. Everyone was able to make beautiful images, as we’ve seen in Facebook, thanks to our great models. For Weddings we worked with Crystal and Tony Leland, a real, recently married, couple (it’s much better that way). They did an awesome job! Here are a few images Mirta and I made that day… With Mirta’s post work. Let us know what you think!
One last thing… Congratulations and best wishes in her photography business to Ruby Vargas Lainez! We conducted a raffle among the photographers we worked with at the ShootOut. The prize was a two hour consulting session (it ended up being a little more than that) at our home studio. Ruby was the winner. We enjoyed spending some time with her, I’m sure she’ll do great!
